Risk of more delays for North Hykeham Relief Road

I'm standing here today at the North Hykeham Relief Road site—a project that should be a no-brainer for Lincolnshire. This road is essential, not just for North Hykeham and Lincoln but for the entire region. It will complete the long-overdue ring road, easing congestion, cutting travel times, and opening the door for economic growth.

In November 2020, the Department for Transport committed £110 million to make this project happen, with Lincolnshire County Council and developer contributions covering the rest. The plan includes a new dual carriageway linking the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the Lincoln Eastern Bypass and new roundabouts and bridges to keep traffic moving.

It's estimated to deliver £350 million in economic benefits over the next sixty years, support the construction of 4,500 new homes, and unlock new business opportunities.

Yet here we are, with Labour throwing the whole thing into doubt. They've introduced uncertainty, reviewed capital projects, and risked our funding. Instead of getting on with the job, they're dithering. And what does that mean? More congestion, fewer jobs, and another opportunity wasted. Investors don't want risk. Local businesses don't want delays. And Lincolnshire doesn't wish to make excuses—we need action.

If I am elected as Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, I will demand that this road be built. There will be no more delays, no more political games, and just real leadership to push this project forward. This isn't just about improving travel—it's about the future of our economy, attracting investment, and making Lincolnshire a place where businesses can thrive and families can get on with their lives.

Labour's indecision is costing us. We need a Mayor who will fight for Lincolnshire's fair share of funding, who won't just accept Whitehall's excuses, and who will demand action. This is about delivering for Lincolnshire, precisely what I intend to do.

It's time to put Lincolnshire first. There will be no more delays or excuses. Let's get this road built.
