Did you know that approximately 8.5 million adults in England struggle with literacy? This is more than just a statistic; it represents millions of people who face daily hurdles in finding work, progressing in their careers, and reaching their full potential.
We are taking action to change that.
I recently hosted a collaborative workshop to develop a brandnew literacy qualification specifically designed for our region. This isn’t just about reading and writing in the traditional sense this programme is directly linked to workplace and economic outcomes. We are building a bridge between education and employment to help people get jobs, stay in jobs, and truly get on in life.
A True Collaborative Effort
It was fantastic to see such a high level of engagement from our local partners. We brought together a powerful mix of voices:
Colleges and our two Universities
Local Businesses
Private Skills Providers
Our Mission
During the session, we took a deep dive into the real-world barriers to learning that many face. By identifying these obstacles, we can create a pathway that offers a genuine "second chance" for adults to realise their talents and contribute to our local economy.
We are committed to creating a system where everyone has the tools they need to succeed. Stay tuned for more updates as we move this vital work forward!
