Andrea Jenkyns recently attended a hustings organised by the National Farmers Union (NFU) to present her Agenda for Agriculture and discuss key issues facing Lincolnshire farmers.
During the event, Andrea outlined her commitment to protecting family farms by opposing proposed changes to inheritance tax reliefs (APR and BPR), stressing the need for a thorough economic review before any reforms are made. She also strongly criticised introducing the fertiliser tax under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), pledging to ensure a fair playing field for local farmers.
Andrea emphasised her determination to safeguard prime agricultural land through strengthened planning regulations and mandatory food impact assessments. She highlighted her vision for innovation and sustainability and detailed plans for a Lincolnshire Agri-Tech Hub, investment in green farming grants, and necessary infrastructure improvements to enhance productivity and resilience.
She reiterated her stance against large-scale solar farm developments on productive farmland, advocating instead for appropriate energy alternatives, such as offshore wind and hydrogen projects.
Addressing local farmers’ concerns directly, Andrea committed to investing in rural transport and connectivity as well as flood defences vital for agricultural communities.
