Today I met with Ellie & Jo from Lincolnshire Young Voices to discuss the barriers many young disabled people face when trying to find suitable housing in our county.

Ellie shared her lived experience and highlighted a challenge that too many young professionals with disabilities encounter: a lack of accessible housing options. From limited accessible private rentals to new homes that still require major adaptations, the current system is too often preventing people from living independently and building their careers.

This is clearly a wider issue affecting many young people across Lincolnshire, and it is something we need to address. Everyone should have the opportunity to live independently, contribute their talents to our economy and build a future in the community they call home.

We discussed a number of ideas including improving accessibility standards, exploring ways to increase accessible private rentals and considering how we can better understand the need across the county.

I want to thank Lincolnshire Young Voices for bringing these important issues forward. I look forward to continuing this conversation and working with partners to explore practical solutions that improve opportunities for young disabled people across Greater Lincolnshire.
