Dame Andrea Jenkyns made a strong case for her leadership at the first Greater Lincolnshire Mayoral debate, standing firm on her commitment to business, investment, and skills. The debate, hosted by E-Factor at Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes, brought together Lincolnshire’s business leaders and three of the candidates in the upcoming mayoral election.

Andrea used the platform to showcase her vision for Lincolnshire, focusing on attracting international investment, boosting apprenticeships, and ensuring vocational education is valued as highly as academic qualifications.

A Pro-Business, Pro-Investment Vision

Andrea made it clear that Lincolnshire needs bold leadership to attract investment and drive economic growth. Unlike her Labour opponent Jason Stockwood, who admitted he’s “not really that interested in politics,” Andrea understands that effective political leadership is essential to securing the best deal for Lincolnshire.

She highlighted the untapped potential in the region, stressing that Lincolnshire should be looking outward for investment opportunities. Her experience as a government skills minister gives her the insight and connections to deliver real results, ensuring businesses are supported and local people have the skills they need for the future.

Championing Skills and Apprenticeships

One of Andrea’s standout moments was her passionate call for a revolution in how the UK treats vocational and technical education. She called for an end to the “snobbery” that prioritises academic qualifications over practical skills, arguing that the UK should follow Germany’s model of giving equal respect to all education routes.

“Businesses need to be incentivised more to take on apprentices, and we need parity of esteem between vocational, technical and academic qualifications,” she stated.

Andrea’s experience in government sets her apart as the only candidate who has successfully delivered skills-focused policy at a national level. This knowledge is crucial in ensuring Lincolnshire’s young people are equipped for the jobs of the future.

A Clear Alternative to More of the Same

The other candidates stuck to predictable talking points. Labour’s Jason Stockwood, despite his business background, focused on “seed capital” and abstract investment theories rather than direct, actionable plans for Lincolnshire. Conservative candidate Rob Waltham touted his role in negotiating the devolution deal but failed to explain why Lincolnshire has been left behind under Conservative leadership.

Andrea, on the other hand, laid out a clear, results-driven plan. She understands that businesses and workers in Lincolnshire don’t need more bureaucracy—they need leadership that fights for them.

The Right Leader for Lincolnshire

With the election fast approaching, Andrea Jenkyns is proving why she is the right choice for Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire. She brings:

  • A bold vision for attracting international investment.

  • A commitment to making skills and apprenticeships a top priority.

  • A no-nonsense approach to ensuring businesses get the support they need.

Lincolnshire deserves a leader who will fight for its people and businesses—not another career politician or an out-of-touch executive. Andrea Jenkyns is the only candidate with the experience, drive, and determination to deliver real change.
