Heathrow Airport signing the UK Steel Charter is a step in the right direction, but it highlights a deeper issue: why isn’t this standard practice already? For too long, British infrastructure projects have relied on foreign steel while our own industry struggles under high energy costs, green levies, and unfair competition from subsidised imports.
Reform UK would go further—scrap net-zero policies that drive up costs, cut unnecessary red tape, and ensure British steel is the first choice for all major projects. The third runway and other expansions should be built with UK-made steel, supporting jobs and industry here, not lining the pockets of overseas firms.
This move from Heathrow is welcome, but it’s not enough. Britain needs a government that will back its own industries properly—Reform UK would do just that.
