Backing our pubs

There is nothing quite like our local pubs. They are the heart of our communities, places where friendships are made, milestones are celebrated and local life comes together. When a pub closes, it is not just a business that is lost, it is a vital part of the community.
Today I visited Stags Head Pub to speak with the landlord and Star Pubs about the real pressures they are facing. Rising National Insurance contributions, higher beer duty and an outdated business rates system are all piling on costs and making it harder for pubs to keep their doors open.
Let me be clear: I will fight against any more financial burdens on our local trade.
That is exactly why I will not introduce an overnight levy. A so called Tourism Tax would simply add another financial burden and make it even more difficult for our pubs to thrive.
Our pubs deserve support, not more red tape.
